Kennedy participates in ASCE Post-Disaster Assessment of Typhoon Haiyan

Kareem Receives Publication Award for Book on Structural Wind Engineering

Ahsan Kareem, the Robert Moran Professor of Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, and co-author, Yukio Tamura, professor of architectural engineering at Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics, have been named winners of the 2013 Japanese Association for Wind Engineering (JAWE) Publication Award. Their book Advanced Structural Wind Engineering was published in 2013 by Springer. The award will be presented at the 2014 JAWE General Assembly in May.…

Westerink to Receive Inaugural Magoon Sustainable Coasts Award

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has named Joannes J. Westerink the inaugural recipient of the Orville T. Magoon Sustainable Coasts Award. Westerink is the Joseph and Nona Ahearn Professor in Computational Science and Engineering and Henry J. Massman Chairman of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences at the University of Notre. The award will be presented at the 34th International Conference on Coastal Engineering in Seoul, Korea, in June 2014.…

 

Fernando To Receive Honorary Doctorate from Grenoble

Harindra Joseph Fernando, the Wayne and Diana Murdy Family Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences, has been selected to receive an honorary doctorate from the Université de Grenoble [Université Joseph Fourier] in France. The presentation will take place as part of the Honoris Causa Ceremony on March 20, 2014, in Grenoble. The université is home to the Laboratoire Des Ecoulements Geophysiques et Industriels (LEGI) that hosts the largest and most sophisticated rotating platform in the world for studies on Coriolis forces in environmental and geophysical flows that arise due to the rotation of the Earth.…

 

Ph.D student Gaofeng Jia wins Young Researcher Best Paper Competition in the Third International Conference on Soft Computing Technology in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering

Ph.D student Gaofeng Jia has won the Young (below 35) Researcher Best Paper Competition in the Third International Conference on Soft Computing Technology in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering for his paper titled “Non-Parametric Stochastic Subset Optimization for System Design Optimization under Uncertainty”, authored by G. Jia and A.A Taflanidis. This marks the second time a member of the HIPAD laboratory receives this award as Professor Taflanidis won it at its inaugural year (2009).…
